CULTURE NEWS

  • 87-year-old LaRue Sheetz conducted her final cantata today at Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church in Bechtelsville after 23 years at the church and 29 years at Church of the Good Shepherd in Boyertown; she will continue as musical director until June.  WFMZ-TV

ECONOMY NEWS

  • Drivers using the Pennsylvania Turnpike face a 4% toll increase that could raise travel costs for daily commuters. Officials report the change is already in effect.  WFMZ-TV

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • BARTA announced updated bus routes that take effect today to boost on-time performance and safety in Reading. Changes include added trips on route 8, new stops on route 9 for Berks Nature, and extended service on route 22 to Kutztown University + adjustments across other routes.  Reading Eagle
  • PennDOT is working on road projects today through Friday with lane restrictions from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. Repairs on Route 422 in Cumru Township and brush cutting on roads in Greenwich, Bethel, Richmond, Rockland, District, and Hereford townships will affect local traffic.  Reading Eagle

  • On Saturday, Exeter rallied past Reading High 59-55 with Addison Harper scoring 21 points, including two key 3-pointers, while teammates added crucial support in the BCIAA girls basketball game + in a non-league contest, Northern Lehigh beat Kutztown 36-25.  Reading Eagle
  • On Saturday, Fleetwood beat Conrad Weiser 62-50 after Mason Senna scored 32 points (with Bryce Ryan and Eli Herndon adding key scores), while Tulpehocken edged York Tech 57-51 and Penn Wood defeated Wilson 52-43 in non-league play.  Reading Eagle
